The Role

As the Lead Android Engineer here at Dojo you’ll be embedded in our Customer Success Tribe ensuring every customer interaction with our Android app is unrivalled. Spread throughout multiple squads, your team of 5 Android engineers are responsible for delivering critical account information, real time transaction data, business insights and critical account information to on average 12,000 unique daily users. With record monthly sign-ups and international expansion plans we expect to see this number increase considerably!

We are looking for someone who takes pride & ownership in what they build, being able to voice their opinion and share their expertise, but also listen and make the correct decision. You shouldn’t be afraid to celebrate successes, admit mistakes, turn to others for help, whilst always maintaining a sense of honesty and humility. You should be looking to improve each day, caring about the tech, architecture, and people they interact with, understanding both the small details and the big picture in everything we do. 

Finally, you should be able to coach, mentor, and inspire those around you, embedding excellence, a sense of safety, and a desire to succeed in their teams, ensuring these values are adhered to at all levels.

What you will do…

  • Lead a team of 5 Android engineers, supporting their development with regular 1-to-1s 

  • Drive Dojos Android architectural decisions

  • Work alongside Product Managers, heads of department and technical leads, enabling high-performing teams to produce high-impact, high-quality work.

  • Foster an environment where problems can be shared, understood and resolved, always keeping the customer at the heart of decision making.

  • Collaborate with passionate people across the whole company in achieving real business goals.

What you will bring…

  • A strong technical background, previously working as an engineer at a senior level 

  • Comfort with frequent context shifting and juggling multiple concerns at once.

  • Product-focused mindset.

  • Strong relationship-building skills, employing empathy, respect and acceptance for people with different backgrounds and opinions.

  • An attitude of leading by example, consistently demonstrating and promoting the values we expect from every member of the engineering team.

  • Familiarity with Web service integration (REST, JSON etc).

  • Basic understanding of socket based API services.

  • Knowledge of reactive programming (RXSwift, ReactiveSwift, Combine or similar)

  • Knowledge of architecture patterns (MVVM, MVC, VIPER, etc)

  • Unit/UI testing knowledge with XCTest framework

  • Excellent knowledge of Kotlin.

  • Understanding of the app release/approval cycle for the Google Play store.

  • Knowledge of both Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment.

  • Knowledge of SOLID Principles, the MVVM pattern, Pair Programming & TDD.

  • Knowledge of Testing Methodologies (Unit, Integration, Regression).Experience with Dagger, OKHttp / Retrofit advantageous.

  • Experience with Firebase, Fabric & Realm advantageous.

  • Experience with Mockk and JUnit advantageous

  • Passionate about building reusable components.
