We’re Dojo

Since launching Dojo in 2019 to address business owners’ pain points across the UK, we’ve seen incredible growth as a scaling fintech, welcoming over 60,000 new customers and growing the Dojo team to 900+ people across five locations. In that time, we’ve also introduced Dojo Virtual Queues & Bookings and the Dojo restaurant finder app, formerly known as WalkUp and loved by 600 restaurants and 600,000 diners across the UK. Today, we work towards our mission to empower businesses to thrive in the Experience Economy by creating the tools and technology that turn transactions into meaningful relationships. For our business customers, that means fast funding, the fastest payments, smart integrations, and efficient virtual queues & bookings - all with instant insight across the board. For over 600,000 diners across the UK, that means getting seated at their favourite restaurants in just a couple of taps on the Dojo app. Whether it’s for busy business owners or hungry diners, every Dojo product is built to address real customer pain points by our dedicated teams in London, Bristol, Hull and Belfast.

The role

We are looking for a People Partner to join our team, reporting to the Director of People Partnering. You will be a trusted strategic advisor and coach to our Commercial department - partnering up to and including C suite level.  We’re on the cusp of going international, and our Commercial teams will be expanding across Europe.

Your overall goal? To be a strategic partner to the business leaders ensuring that people are considered in everything we do.  You’ll understand the critical business priorities, build organisational and people capability, and partner with business leaders and centres of expertise to  identify, develop and deliver People initiatives that support the business as it continues to scale-up whilst fostering our unique and special culture.

You’ll always adopt a people-centric approach.  Our people are our customers and so, we should always be adding value at every step of their journey with us.  At Dojo, we constantly iterate - listening closely to our customers and making improvements based on their feedback, that’s no different with our people internally.

What you will do…

  • Be a trusted advisor to our leaders - provide expert advice, guidance and coaching in all aspects of HR - equipping our leaders with the right skills and behaviours to lead their business and teams through growth and change

  • Considering business priorities and needs, you’ll anticipate the needs of your stakeholders, diagnose problems, identify and drive appropriate solutions

  • Support workforce planning - identify gaps, issues and areas for improvement within the org design and effectiveness- query new roles as they arise, question where they fit in and ensure all headcount plans are carried out to plan.  Lead discussions with data, formulating insights and recommendations to inform and drive ad-hoc projects related to org design and other people change processes

  • Use data to identify problems within teams (e.g. engagement survey, performance or attrition metrics) before they emerge and work together with your stakeholders in order to formulate and implement solutions + measure their impact

  • Partner closely with the People teams centres of expertise to ensure we’re delivering the right and most valuable initiatives across the employee lifecycle, including performance management, compensation, leadership development, total rewards, culture & engagement and diversity, equity & inclusion

  • Partner with Talent Development to enable Dojo people to excel and grow- helping our people build both their technical and transferable skills so they can excel and grow in their current roles and for future roles

  • Partner closely with our International tribe to understand the people requirements as we expand globally and lead a squad within the People Team to ensure we’re set up for success

  • Support managers with more complex employee relations cases providing practical and flexible solutions whilst adopting a fair and consistent approach in order to reach an amicable outcome

  • Foster diversity, equity and inclusion - helping to build community, cohesion and a sense of belonging around our shared values, and ensuring an inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and respected, and knowingly recruited for their differences

  • Support on any other people team work streams and ad hoc projects as needed

What you will bring…

  • Experience in a strategic HR role, working directly with senior-level management - comfortable and confident collaborating closely with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Experience partnering across different countries and multiple regions and ideally with Commercial teams.  International expansion experience would be a big plus.

  • Practical employment law experience gained within countries we are expanding would be a plus (Ireland, Italy, Spain, France etc.)

  • Forward-thinking relationship builder, coach and advisor, willing and confident to challenge the status quo or a manager’s approach!

  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills to help you design and deliver people plans which align to the business goals

  • A collaborate and genuine partner approach which will help you build strong, authentic relationships with business leaders and key partners in the centres of expertise

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a fast paced environment - not all of our problems are defined, nor all our processes built out and things change quickly

  • A practical ‘hands on’ approach and happy to roll up your sleeves

  • You have high curiosity and are a self starter, with a proactive can-do attitude.

  • Strong HR expertise,  preferably a relevant HR degree or Chartered CIPD qualified

  • Experience in a fast-growth scale up would be great, but isn’t a must!
