Creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive Dojo

Dojo’s 150,000+ customers reflect the diversity of the UK High Street. Building teams with diverse backgrounds that are representative of the customer base which we serve is fundamental to creating innovative products at Dojo. Whoever you are, if you’re passionate about your work, curious, relentless and customer-obsessed, you have a place at Dojo.

We want everyone to be the best they can be throughout the recruitment process; if you require any additional adjustments please let us know.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior People Partner to join our team, reporting to the Director of People Partnering. You will be a trusted strategic advisor and coach to our Group Functions (Finance, People, Risk and Legal & Compliance) - partnering up to and including C suite level.  These teams are currently based in the UK and Ireland, with plans to grow across Spain and Italy later in 2024.

Your overall goal? To be a strategic partner to the business leaders ensuring that people are considered in everything we do.  You’ll understand the critical business priorities, build organisational and people capability, and partner with business leaders and centres of expertise to  identify, develop and deliver People initiatives that support the business as it continues to scale-up whilst fostering our unique and special culture.

You’ll always adopt a people-centric approach.  Our people are our customers and so, we should always be adding value at every step of their journey with us.  At Dojo, we constantly iterate - listening closely to our customers and making improvements based on their feedback, that’s no different with our people internally.

What you will do …

  • Be a trusted advisor to our leaders - provide expert advice, challenge, guidance and coaching in all aspects of HR - equipping our leaders with the right skills and behaviours to lead their business and teams through growth and change

  • Considering business priorities and needs, you’ll anticipate the needs of your stakeholders, diagnose problems, identify and drive appropriate solutions

  • Support workforce planning - identify gaps, issues and areas for improvement within the org design and effectiveness- query new roles as they arise, question where they fit in and ensure all headcount plans are carried out to plan.  Lead discussions with data, formulating insights and recommendations to inform and drive ad-hoc projects related to org design and other people change processes

  • Use people data to identify problems before they emerge (e.g. engagement survey, performance or attrition metrics) and work together with your stakeholders to formulate and implement solutions and measure their impact

  • Partner closely with the People teams centres of expertise (Talent Acquisition, Talent Development and Reward/People Ops) to ensure we’re delivering the right and most valuable initiatives across the employee lifecycle, including performance management, compensation, leadership development, total rewards, culture & engagement and diversity, equity & inclusion

  • Support people leaders and our Advisor team with more complex employee relations cases providing practical and flexible solutions whilst always ensuring a fair and consistent approach

  • Foster diversity, equity and inclusion - helping to build diversity, community, cohesion and a sense of belonging in everything we do - challenge and support leaders and people team to ensure all initiatives are embodying DEI

  • Support on any other people team work streams and ad hoc projects as needed

What you will bring…

  • Experience in a strategic HR role, working directly with senior-level management - comfortable and confident collaborating closely with a wide variety of stakeholders and building on ideas to get even better co created solutions.

  • Experience partnering ideally with Group Functions teams.  International expansion experience would be a big plus.

  • Practical employment law experience gained within countries we are expanding would be a plus (Ireland, Italy, Spain, France etc.)

  • Forward-thinking relationship builder, coach and advisor, willing and confident to challenge the status quo or a people leader’s approach!

  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills to help you design and deliver people plans which align to the business goals

  • A collaborate and genuine partner approach which will help you build strong, authentic relationships with business leaders and key partners in the centres of expertise

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a fast paced environment - not all of our problems are defined, nor all our processes built out and things change quickly

  • A practical ‘hands on’ approach and happy to roll up your sleeves

  • You have high curiosity and are a self starter, with a proactive can-do attitude.

  • Strong HR expertise,  preferably a relevant HR degree or Chartered CIPD qualified

  • Experience in a fast-growth scale up would be great, but isn’t a must!

How will you know when you’ve been successful in the role?

When your leaders don’t make any decisions without you in the room! As a People Team, our KPIs are founded on leadership capability, engagement and diversity - in short, you’ll enable our leaders to drive and retain high performing and engaged diverse teams.

About Dojo

We launched Dojo in 2019 to address business owners’ pain points across the UK. Since then, we’ve seen incredible growth as a scaling fintech, welcoming over 150,000 customers and growing the Dojo team to 1,000+ people across five locations. In that time, we’ve also introduced Dojo Virtual Queues & Bookings and the Dojo restaurant finder app, formerly known as WalkUp and loved by 1,000 restaurants and 750,000 diners.

Today, we work towards our mission to empower businesses to thrive in the Experience Economy by creating the tools and technology that turn transactions into meaningful relationships. For our business customers, that means fast funding, the fastest payments, smart integrations, and efficient virtual queues & bookings - all with instant insight across the board. For diners, that means getting seated at their favourite restaurants with just a couple of taps on the Dojo app. Whether it’s for busy business owners or hungry diners, every Dojo product is built to address real customer pain points by our dedicated teams in London, Bristol, Hull and Belfast.

Our values

At Dojo, we’re curious. We have an insatiable desire to learn and innovate. And we’re relentless. We persevere even when it’s easier not to. But, we’re nothing without our customers, who drive everything we do. From day one, Dojo was built on real customer pain points and every one of us is customer-obsessed.

Our way of working

Dojo has adopted a set of shared principles with the aim of increasing in-person collaboration and amplifying our ‘Customer First’ values. We encourage our employees to meet in-person over virtual meetings, and our communication is mostly asynchronous. Unlike most other businesses, we are intentionally avoiding a rules-based approach, and each team is empowered to make the arrangements that work best for their success. The answer to every scenario which tests these principles is: We trust you to use your judgement responsibly, in the best interest of our customers.
